The user is not the designer

Famous game designer Richard Garfield was a guest on the latest episode of Lucky Paper Radio, a show about designing cubes for Magic: The Gathering.

He addressed a rookie mistake and one of my pet peeves in user-centered design: Asking the user (in his case, the player) what we should change, instead of focusing on their experience and then design accordingly, ourselves.
